ABOUT DUTCH TREAT DINNER:
DUTCH TREAT DINNER is an opportunity to build new connections, reconnect with those you know and develop a stronger community of creative individuals.  Unlike a gala or formal dinner event, DTD has no set menu, ticket price or seating arrangement – you order straight from the standard menu, attend for free and sit with those you wish.  Individuals attending are responsible for their own dinner bill, hence the name DUTCH TREAT DINNER.

There is no pressure – you eat and drink what you order and can afford.

HISTORY OF DUTCH TREAT DINNER:
Dutch Treat Dinner was conceived originally in 1999 by John D. Spiak and artist Cyndi Coon in Tempe, Arizona.  The dinners have taken place at random locations and random times ever since.

RSVP
Please send me an email RSVP with number of individuals planning to attend Dutch Treat Dinner with you.  This will allow us a count to provide Izalco in advance, so they can be best prepared for our arrival.

Thanks and look forward to seeing you at the Dutch Treat Dinner!

Jersey Design Complete!

June 1, 2012

The jersey design is complete and fabrication has begun!

A big THANK YOU to Claudette Duggan at Victory Custom Athletic for helping us to realize this vision on such a short timeline.

You may ask, “why such a short timeline?”  We just met Adam two weeks ago at the Open Engagement: Art + Social Practice conference. He made his pitch (pun intended) for the project and we knew immediately it was a project that had to be realized.

There is still time to join Adam’s team – extended deadline is June 9.  Complete details @ https://grandcentralartcenter.wordpress.com/2012/05/30/dream-of-playing-in-the-major-leagues-mlb-join-gcac-artist-in-residence-adam-moser-and-tryout/

And we’d love to have you join us for the Dutch Treat Dinner / Ball Signing Event on Monday, June 11 @ 7pm.  Complete details can be found @ https://grandcentralartcenter.wordpress.com/2012/06/04/invitation-to-dutch-treat-dinner-ball-signing-june-11-%C2%AD-please-join-us/

Dream of Playing in the Major Leagues (MLB)? – Join GCAC Artist in Residence Adam Moser and Tryout!

May 30, 2012

Grand Central Art Center is pleased to announce our next Social Practice Artist in Residence – Portland, OR based artist and athlete Adam Moser.

Moser will realize his lifelong dream of playing in the big leagues by trying out for Major League Baseball (MLB). Recognizing he is not alone in this dream, Moser is looking for individuals of our GCAC community in order to form a 9-member tryout team, the Cut-Off Men.

Team members must be in good physical shape, available to attend events the evening of June 11 and available the complete day of tryouts on June 12 from 6am-10pm. Team members must also be 25 years or older and will be required to sign both the MLB and Grand Central Art Center release of liability forms. Team members must supply their own cleats, gloves, bats and equipment.  GCAC will be supplying team jerseys.

The public is invited to a free ball signing event and Dutch Treat Dinner on June 11. The first 50 people will receive an autographed baseball, signed by the entire team.

Details on the dinner can be found at: https://grandcentralartcenter.wordpress.com/2012/06/04/invitation-to-dutch-treat-dinner-ball-signing-june-11-%C2%AD-please-join-us/

The next morning, June 12, the nine members will load into the team van and make their way to the official 2012 Major League Scouting Bureau U.S. Tryout Camp in Compton, CA.

The complete team will show off their skills for the scouts and stay for the entire day, before returning that evening for an official team press conference to be held in our GCAC AIR clubhouse.

If you are interested in joining Adam’s team and trying our for Major League Baseball, please sign-up in person at Grand Central Art Center or by sending an email to gcacmlb@gmail.com

Halle Berry, Steven Spielberg, Mickey Fisher and GCAC!

July 1, 2014

mickey and julie

It seems like only a short time ago, Mickey Fisher was living here at Grand Central Art Center, with his partner CSUF student Julie Cardia, who graduated this May with her MFA Theatre Arts in Acting. As a filmmaker, writer and director, Mickey lent us his talents, working with two of our GCAC artists-in-residence to create short documentary films on their projects.

The first documentary short film was created in July of 2012, with artist Adam Moser. Through his project, Moser attempted to realize his lifelong dream of playing in the big leagues by trying out for Major League Baseball (MLB). Recognizing he was not alone in this dream, Moser invited individuals from Grand Central Art Center’s Downtown Santa Ana community to join him, forming a 9-member tryout team, the Cut-Off Men.

In June of 2013, Mickey worked with GCAC once again, this time with artist Carmen Papalia, creating a short documentary on the artists walking performance Mobility Device. Papalia started using a white cane when he began to lose his vision nearly ten years ago. For one day, through his performance piece, he replaced his cane with The Great Centurion Marching Band of Century High School, Santa Ana.

Wait, what are we talking about? It has only been a short time since they both lived here, as Julie and Mickey moved out of their GCAC apartment in April, just two months ago, but so much has happened.

This is where we get to the Halle Berry and Steven Spielberg connection…

extant

Last year, while living at GCAC, Mickey entered his script for EXTANT into the TrackingB TV Pilot Contest. The script made it to a finalist slot in the competition, where it caught the eye of a individual involved in the review process. This individual championed the work. Long story short, the script was picked up by Steve Spielberg and his Amblin TV, then pitched to CBS, who orders 13-episodes straight to series.

If that was the end of the story, it would be amazing in itself, but it’s not. Apparently, Halle Berry got wind of the script and expressed interest. She is quoted as saying, “I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium.” Yes, Berry landed the lead role, along side actor Goran Visnjic (from ER fame), and Pierce Gagnon.

So get ready, as EXTANT premieres on CBS June 9, 9pm/8central here in the US. For our friends in the UK, you can watch it on July 10 through Amazon Prime Instant Video, which nabbed exclusive UK rights.

Want to read more about Mickey Fishers amazing journey this past year? You can check it out in this <a href="Variety article.
